# Engineering Local-First SQLite Architecture for Zero-Downtime Dinner Rushes
Cloud-only POS systems introduce a fragile single point of failure: the restaurant's commercial broadband cable. When the line drops during a 150-cover dinner rush, waitstaff cannot punch orders and line cooks stare at blank screens.
### The Local SQLite Engine
RestoOS was designed as a local-first application. Every Register and handheld Terminal runs an embedded, high-performance SQLite engine locally.
1. **Sub-millisecond writes:** Menu navigation and order additions resolve in under 2ms directly from disk.
2. **Encrypted Offline Queue:** Payment tokens are secured inside hardware secure elements and queued with 24-hour sync resilience.
3. **Automatic Resync:** When WAN connectivity returns, the background sync worker pushes order states upstream without duplicate ticket prints.
