Ethical Software Engineering & Moral Commerce

The RestoOS Ethical Developer Manifesto

Why we build restaurant operating systems with absolute honesty, zero deceit, and reverent craftsmanship. A pledge from Muslim developers to restaurant operators worldwide.

Software Craftsmanship as an Act of Moral Stewardship

In modern restaurant technology, SaaS pricing models have drifted into extractive opportunism: teaser introductory rates that quietly double after twelve months, hidden diner checkout surcharges that pit restaurants against their guests, and proprietary hardware walled gardens designed to trap operators.

As Muslim software developers, we reject this business model entirely. We view software engineering not merely as a commercial enterprise, but as an ethical discipline governed by divine accountability and moral integrity. Our code is written with three non-negotiable spiritual and professional pillars:

إحسان
Pillar I

Ihsan (إحسان) — Craftsmanship & Excellence

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) taught: “Verily, Allah has prescribed Ihsan (perfection, excellence, and beauty) in all things.”

In software, Ihsan means zero compromise on reliability. It means our POS never crashes during a packed Saturday 8 PM dinner rush. It means zero-latency local SQLite databases, GPU-accelerated sub-millisecond touch responses, and robust 24-hour offline store-and-forward resilience when the restaurant's internet provider fails.

Excellence in every line of code.
صدق
Pillar II

Sidq (صدق) — Absolute Truthfulness in Commerce

The Prophet (ﷺ) proclaimed: “The truthful, honest merchant is with the prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs on the Day of Resurrection.”

Sidq mandates radical pricing transparency. We never hide fees, bury arbitrary markup in interchange differentials, or charge deceptive “technology convenience fees” to your guests. Our flat 2.6% + 10¢ card processing rate is real, static, and transparent. We never use bait-and-switch teaser promotions.

Truth in billing without fine print.
أمانة
Pillar III

Amanah (أمانة) — Sacred Data Stewardship

In Islam, an Amanah is a sacred trust that one must safeguard with vigilance.

Your restaurant's customer lists, sales figures, and diner contact information belong exclusively to you. RestoOS will never sell, broker, or monetize your guest data to third-party advertisers or competing delivery apps. We encrypt all customer records and respect your diners' personal privacy as an inviolable moral duty.

Sacred protection of merchant data.

Our Covenant with Every Restaurant Partner

We pledge to stand beside you through rush hours, supply chain shifts, and kitchen transformations. No lock-in, no predatory practices—just honest technology engineered to serve hospitality dignity.
